9th FS Flying Knights

The 9th FS "Iron Knights" took over the F-117A operations of the 415th FS on July 30, 1993. Later The 9th retains the Atlantic contingency role for the F-117A.

July 30, 1993
The 415th FS deactivates and becomes the 9th FS "Iron Knights" with no change of command.

July 8, 1994
Lt. Col. William C. Crabbe III assumes command of the 9th FS.

June 8, 1995
Lt. Col. Gregory A. "Beast" Feest assumes command of the 9th FS.

1995??
The 9th FS "Iron Knights" become the 9th FS "Flying Knights". This change was in name only-the emblem remained the same.

June 13, 1997
Lt. Col. Joe Salata takes command of the 9th FS.

April 4, 1999
Members of the 9th FS deploy to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany as the 9th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron under the 49th Expeditionary Operations Group. The 9th EFS launched its first combat sortie only 33 hours after departing Holloman/ The 9th EFS was deployed to supplement the forces already participating in Operation Allied Force.

May 28, 1999
Lt. Col. Mace Carpenter assumed command of the Flying Knights while still performing combat operations at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany.

June 17, 1999
The 7th FS becomes the 7th CTS. The 7 F-117As previously assigned to the 7th FS are transfered to the 9th FS.
